Lesson 1. Just because you can get into the jeans doesn't mean you should wear the jeans. I discovered this after an unexpected weight loss prompted me to go jean-shopping for the first time in ages (I've been wearing elastic-waist knits). I brought the jeans home, washed and dried them, put them on, then realized that my middle section looked something like Claude Monet's Haystacks on a Foggy Morning. Back in my carefree youth, we Texas gals made a ritual of buying the smallest jeans we could find, then lying on the bed to make ourselves as skinny as we could to get them buttoned. That was then, but this is now, and the flesh that was once as taut as a Spanx In-Power Line Super High Footless Shaper is now more like a Spanx that's been left in the dryer on "hot" for four hours. My tiny mother got all three pair of those tiny jeans, and I went back to the store to buy a size larger, realizing that if someone called me "Cupcake," it wouldn't be a pass.
