Pomfret seniors given final possible site
Theme park roller coasters have fewer twists and turns than the conversation of where the Fredonia-Pomfret seniors will be housed in the coming year. During its reorganizational meeting Wednesday, the Pomfret Town Board discussed what may be the final turn on the coaster.
According to Councilwoman Pat Christina, the seniors are being offered a site - the Blessed Mary Angela Parish Lyceum at St. Hyacinth's Church on the corner of Pangolin and Lake Shore Drive East in the city of Dunkirk.
The facilities include an adjacent kitchen space with stove, microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker; furniture including long folding tables and chairs and benches; a bingo board, a foldable dividing wall in the center of the lyceum, small parking lots on both sides of the building, utilities and two bathrooms. Parking lots and door entrances would receive snow removal. The premises are regularly cleaned as well.
At the lyceum, Christina said, the rent would be $600 per month. This would be for three days a week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 or 2 p.m. Christina said Senior Center Director Jeanine Smith felt this would be sufficient time for most of the activities.
