Based on some statistics, 52 percent of American citizens are coffee drinkers. This translates to a lot more than 100 million people who drink cup of coffee every day. People in america are a diverse population and far away from unanimously agreeing on which makes a good mug of coffee. Fortunately, there are several variations of coffee machines available today.
Coffee drinkers can choose the brewing machine that fits their preferences. Common coffee maker styles include Automatic Drip, Automatic Espresso, French Press, Percolator, Stovetop Espresso, and Vacuum style. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks and gives the consumer varying control over the end result.
Automatic Drip Coffee Maker Automatic drip coffee makers are probably typically the most popular choice for Americans. They are easy to use and therefore are inexpensive to purchase. Most operate on exactly the same principle. Within the coffee pot is a filter basket in which a paper filter holds the coffee grounds. Cold water flows into the reservoir where it’s heated before being poured within the grounds. The resulting coffee flows right into a carafe. The brewed coffee is kept warm through the hot surface underneath the carafe.

Let’s face it, hipsters are too good for mainstream coffee. Starbucks? Don’t insult their sensitive taste buds. There are two options when it comes to making a great cup of joe, and neither include your parents’ drip coffeemaker. These hipsters are DIY renegades, using a Bodum French Press or a Chemex to brew their organic blended coffee from Whole Foods. But which brew is less mainstream? BANGSTYLE weighs in on the pros and cons of the indie coffee quarrel.

The Bodum French Press ($20 and up) is the anti-drip-brewed coffee. It brews smooth and flavorful coffee in minutes and requires less labor than instant coffee makers. Coffee filters are not required, just good ground coffee beans and hot water. You can even control the strength of your coffee by determining how long you want to let it brew (4 minutes is suggested). Weekly Roast reports that essential oils that usually get lost in instant coffee filters will make it into your cup with the french press. This allows you to taste the subtle differences between different roasts. The result is a rich cup of coffee you can enjoy again and again. You can even get a hand-knitted sweater “cozy” for your French Press on Etsy ($20). Take that, Mr. Coffee!

Our daughter gave us a small press coffee maker. There are no instructions and we have never used one. Does anyone have instructions?
